About

I'm Tony Baynes. I work in logistics, and somewhere along the way I became the person who builds the systems that keep it running — importing and reconciling data, wiring up carrier APIs, and standing up the small pieces of infrastructure that turn "someone should automate that" into something that quietly works.

This site is where I write about the technical side of that: self-hosting, networking, APIs, and the general craft of keeping systems simple enough to understand and secure enough to trust. I'm a firm believer that most things are built more complicated than they need to be, and that the elegant version is usually the smaller one.

I learn by doing — usually by getting it wrong first, then writing down what I wish I'd known. So a lot of what's here is the honest version: the trap that cost an afternoon, the assumption that turned out backwards, the fix that was simpler than the problem looked. If one of these saves you that afternoon, it's done its job.

Everything here is built by hand — no database, no tracking, no cookie banners. Just articles, on a site small enough that I can hold the whole thing in my head.
